Living in Harmony With Earth
Weekend of January 7-8, 2012

In A Nutshell…

Monday, Jan. 9, at 7:30 a.m. as many of us are beginning our day, the Moon will reach its Full/Doing stage. This will give us a bit of a boost at the week’s beginning, much needed in this depth of winter. As I write this, the snow is bedazzled by bright sunshine, but by next week we will likely have drab color on the ground. Take a walk outdoors anyway and let the fresh air fill you with Full Moon enthusiasm. It enhances the emotional and mental as well as the physical.

December 31, 2011-January 1, 2012: Plan

It was time to relax in your jammies and only dream about the future.

How do we be ruthlessly honest, and at the same time, kind with ourselves? I use the word “ruthless” out of a desire to cut through my excuses and old patterns and get to the truth of why I do or don’t do things. If I am going to look at my self honestly, then I can not be fooling myself in any way, right? The trouble is that many reasons why we do things are buried so deep we are not conscious of them. That’s where kindness comes in. Most of us would not yell at or berate a dear friend, but we do it to ourselves all the time. We undermine our attempts at change that are not immediately successful with comments such as “See? I knew I couldn’t do it!”, “I’m no good at this!” or “I’m not smart enough.”

The reality is old patterns of behavior are very hard to change, especially if they were developed during our formative years of childhood. Learning at age three that cookies were a reward for the tears of upset says a lot about our weight problem at 40. Use this time of reflection to look back on your life, with kindness; answers may await you.

Next Weekend

January 14-15, 2012 : Finish

Martin Luther King Day on Jan. 16 reminds us to finish with negative attitudes and embrace each others’ humanness.

Two Treasures--Part 1 or 4: A General Discussion

A treasure “is a concentration of riches … considered lost or forgotten until rediscovered” (Wikipedia).
Human beings are born with two inherited treasures: intuition and logic. They are the great treasures of humanity because intuition and logic, skillfully combined, are the balanced path to knowledge, compassion, creativity, spiritual understanding, science and other greatly prized human endeavors.
Intuition gives us the ability to create concepts and new ideas (e.g. the iPhone) without the use of conscious thought through the method commonly referred to as a “flash of insight”.
Logic gives us the ability to “figure stuff out” based on conscious reasoning (e.g. assumption, theory and testing). Logic can work out details after the concept is in place or make variations (e.g. Android type phones) but is inherently slow to create truly new ideas.
Searching for knowledge by combining both intuition and logic appropriately produces the most spectacular results. Using only intuition or only logic produces a limited version of the possible results.
